Morning sickness is a common problem that affects many pregnant women usually during the first three months of pregnancy, however some women can experience it right through pregnancy. Even though it’s named Morning Sickness, it can actually affect you at any time throughout the day and can often take away the excitement and pleasure of being pregnant. If it’s really severe it can absolutely affect your daily routine and prevent you from going about your day to day activities. Morning Sickness is usually caused through the changes in hormones that occur to our bodies during pregnancy. Generally this will settle down by about week 14 to 16.
There are several ways to help ease this feeling without harming your unborn baby such as:
• Eat small meals throughout the day and don’t allow yourself
to get hungry as this can make things worse.
•
Ask your Partner to get you some cracker biscuits or plain toast with a cup
of tea before you get up in the morning.
•
Drink plenty of fluids such as water, soup or fresh fruit juice.
•
Ginger is know to have anti-emetic qualities so keep some ginger on hand to
chew on or even try Ginger Ale or Ginger biscuits.
•
Acupressure wrist bands for travel sickness may help and can be purchased from
you local Pharmacy.
•
Don’t get stressed or tired as this will make your condition worse. Ensure
that you take a nap when ever you can through out the day.
•
Burn some Peppermint Oil in the bedroom before going to bed at night.
•
Avoid high in fat and greasy foods, these can make you feel worse.
•
Acupuncture or Homeopathy may help and you can find a qualified Practitioner
in your local Yellow Pages.
If vomiting is severe it is definitely recommended that you seek Medical Advice and don’t take any medication without speaking to your Doctor first.
